Spiegel

2025 Reclaimed wood, mirror glass St. Gallen, Switzerland

Idea

A reflection with a history

The Spiegel started from a piece of wood too damaged to be reused in its original form, and a mirror pane left over from a renovation. Instead of discarding either, Andres combined them into a single object where the wood's history frames the glass's new purpose.

Material

Reclaimed wood & mirror glass

The wood was salvaged from a dismantled piece of furniture; its grain, scars and old finish were kept visible rather than sanded away. The mirror glass came from an offcut that would otherwise have gone unused.

Process

Framing a second life

The wood was cut and jointed by hand into a frame built specifically for the dimensions of the salvaged glass, keeping the piece entirely unique.

Final Piece

Spiegel, finished

The finished Spiegel stands as both a functional mirror and a record of the materials it was built from — nothing hidden, nothing wasted.
