2026 Reclaimed pallet wood St. Gallen, Switzerland

Idea

From transport to furniture

A shipping pallet is built to be used once and thrown away. It is rough, standardised and invisible — and it is made of solid wood. Palette takes that contradiction as a starting point and turns a single discarded pallet into a console designed to stay.

Material

One pallet, nothing added

The wood comes from a single pallet collected locally. Nail holes, stamps and weathering are kept visible — the surface is sanded and oiled, never painted over, so the material's first life stays part of the piece.

Process

Taken apart, built back up

The pallet is carefully dismantled board by board, the nails removed, the wood sorted by condition. The best pieces form the surface, the rest becomes the frame — cut, jointed and finished by hand in the studio.

Final Piece

Palette, finished

What was built for a single delivery now holds books, plants and everyday objects — the same wood, worth more than before.
